UN CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD TO BE ADDRESSED BY STOP CHURCH CHILD ABUSE CAMPAIGNER

Posted by on

Sue Cox, a member of the STOP CHURCH CHILD ABUSE working party is to apply more pressure to the Catholic Church this week by addressing a UN committee to criticise failures by the Vatican to safeguard children.

The UN convention on the Rights of the Child will hear that the Vatican has failed to meet it’s obligations under the convention by failing to report on it’s adherence or otherwise to the convention and for allowing thousands of children worldwide to be abused by priests.

Sue and others have worked on statistics and the social impact of abuse and will be calling for :-

1) The mandatory reporting of suspected abuse to the police

2)preservation of evidence which may incriminate suspected priests

3)The appointment of entirely independant safeguarding officers who report to a state controlled body and not the Holy See

4) To amend Canon law to ensure it complies with the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.

An update will be published when we hear back from Sue.
